It is located in the city of Paro and it requires pilots have a special certificate before they can be allowed to land into Paro Airport due to the complexicity. It is surrounded by natural beauty which makes flying to Paro quite the scenic experience. Flights to and from Paro Airport are only allowed under visual meteorological conditions and are restricted to daylight hours between sunrise and sunset. Paro Airport was the first and only airport in Bhutan until 2011.
